Global Warming
Policy Writer: Naya Yug |
Several potential effects of global warming, including steady sea level rise, increased cyclonic activity, and changes in ambient temperature and precipitation patterns, have impacted or are projected to impact India. As a result of ongoing climate change, the climate of India has become increasingly volatile over the past several decades; this trend is expected to continue. Our approach must be consistent with the long-term goal of stabilizing greenhouse gas concentrations in the atmosphere. Given India’s dependence on monsoon rains, Himalayan glacier-fed rivers and its long coastline, climate change would have a serious impact.
- Section 7.1 - Implement a comprehensive strategy to address the challenges of global climate change.
- Section 7.2 - Achieve "stabilization of greenhouse gas concentrations in the atmosphere."
- Section 7.3 - Lower overall emissions of six greenhouse gases - carbon dioxide, methane, nitrous oxide, sulfur hexafluoride, hydro fluorocarbons, and per fluorocarbons.
- Section 7.4 - Implement the policy through voluntary and incentive-based programs and establish major government-wide programs to advance climate technologies.
- Section 7.5 - Focus on energy efficiency, renewable energy, hydro, nuclear and solar power, agricultural practices and implementation of technologies to achieve greenhouse gas reductions.
- Section 7.6 - Provides grants to agricultural producers and rural small businesses to purchase renewable energy systems and improve energy efficiency.
- Section 7.7 - Help states adopt a variety of clean energy policies and deploy clean energy programs, including both energy efficiency and renewable energy initiatives.
- Section 7.8 - We should continue to develop environmental observation system to help reduce risks and provide clear policies to guide the many coastal regions of the continent.
- Section 7.9 - We should invests significant resources in clean energy technology, wind, solar
photovoltaic, geothermal, and biomass, industrial and buildings efficiency and alternative transportation technologies.
