We need to reform the way our government works. We need a kind of politics that offers not just a vote at the ballot box, but a voice in government and an assurance that the leaders we elect will hear it and act on it. We want reforms that will help poor get medical assistance, or ensure job opportunities for those who are looking for, or ensure that we build infrastructures that helps us meet the growing challenges of our economy, etc.

  • Section 8.1 - Government should decentralize and address problems from the lowest level of government possible.
  • Section 8.2 - Public agencies should compete with private agencies, and should adopt a market orientation.
  • Section 8.3 - We need to reform the political system so that it works for the hard-working, middle-class and poor families of India, not the special interests corporations.
  • Section 8.4 - Governments at all levels (center, state or local) must play a vital role if our states and our country are to prosper.
  • Section 8.5 - Our government should be well prepared to respond quickly, decisively and effectively to protect the public in case of a natural or man-made disasters.
  • Section 8.6 - We need to implement new laws to protect our children, our youth and families from violence and abuse by public service officials.
  • Section 8.7 - We need to refine political party finance laws, by establishing mandatory reporting requirements and adding restrictions on corporate funding of parties, within defined limits.
  • Section 8.8 - We should put in place new rules requiring all elected officials to disclose the source of all funds donated to them.
  • Section 8.9 - We need to increase representation of women in executive committees and other key decision-making bodies.
